Both are sold as “dhow cruise Dubai’’ and they are genuinely different evenings. Most pages blur them because they take a commission either way.

Our honest steer: take the Creek. The whole point of a wooden dhow is that it belongs to that waterway, it is the boat the city was built on, still moored where the trade happened. A traditional dhow parked under glass towers is a nice evening, but the setting and the vessel are telling you two different stories.
Take the Marina instead if you are already staying there, you have seen Old Dubai, or the skyline at night is specifically the photograph you came for.
Is a dhow cruise actually worth it?
Both sides, because you should hear them before you pay.
What people genuinely enjoy
- Two hours off your feet. After a day of walking Dubai in the heat, sitting on a moving boat with a breeze is worth more than it sounds
- The Creek at night is beautiful, and you cannot see it that way from land
- It suits mixed groups. Grandparents, children and teenagers all cope with it, which is rare
- It is cheap relative to almost everything else in Dubai, and it includes dinner
What disappoints people, in our passengers’ own words
- The buffet is average. Consistently the number one comment. You are paying for the boat and the view, not the food. Eat properly afterwards if food matters to you
- The entertainment can feel thin. Usually a tanoura dancer and music. Some love it, some find it perfunctory
- Boats can be full. On a busy night the upper deck fills and the photographs get harder
- Two hours is two hours. The route is a loop; the second half repeats the first
Verdict: book it as a relaxed evening, not as an attraction. Judged as “a pleasant two hours on the water with dinner included” it delivers almost every time. Judged as a headline Dubai experience it will underwhelm, and that is the gap most bad reviews are actually describing.
What it costs, and why we will not quote you a number
We are not going to print a dhow cruise price, because we do not sell dhow cruises and any figure we published would be a guess about somebody else’s business. Prices move by boat, by season, by deck, and by how you book.

Getting there, which is the part we do sell
Straightforward, and honestly stated: we drive you to the jetty and back. We do not sell the cruise.
- Creek jetty is roughly 15–20 minutes from Dubai International, which makes it the realistic option on a layover
- Marina is 35–45 minutes from the airport and worse in evening traffic
- Our private car is USD 190 / AED 699 for a city evening, per car and up to 6 guests, with the driver waiting rather than leaving you to find a ride back at 10pm
- Booking the boat yourself and the transport with us usually costs less than a bundled package, and you keep control of which boat you are on
The return leg is the bit people underestimate. A cruise finishing at 22:00 at the Creek puts you on a kerb in Deira looking for a taxi with a full boat of people doing the same thing. That is the problem worth paying to remove, not the two miles there.
On a layover? Read this first
A Creek dhow cruise is one of the few Dubai evenings that genuinely fits a long connection, because the jetty is close to the airport. The maths still has to work:

When to skip it entirely
Four cases where we would tell you to spend the evening differently, and we say this knowing it costs us a transfer booking.
- You care about dinner. The food is the weakest part of every dhow cruise we hear about. Eat at a Creek-side restaurant and take an abra across for a few dirhams instead, same water, better meal, a fraction of the cost
- You get seasick. The Creek is calm, but it is still a boat for two hours with no way off
- You only have one night in Dubai. A desert evening or the Fountain and Downtown will stay with you longer. The dhow is a good second or third night, not a first
- You want a party. These are family boats. If that is what you are after, you are looking at the wrong product
The cheapest version of this experience is an abra. A traditional wooden crossing boat on the Creek costs a few dirhams, takes minutes, and gives you the same water and the same old-city view without the buffet. If you want the feeling rather than the evening, do that.
Six things worth knowing before you board
- Boarding time is not sailing time. They are usually 30 minutes apart. Work to the earlier one
- Get on early and go straight to the upper deck. The good seats are gone within ten minutes of boarding, and the upper deck is the entire reason to be there
- Take a light layer. Even in summer the open deck moving over water is cooler than the street, and in winter it is genuinely cold after dark
- Dress modestly. These are family boats and the Creek is in the older, more conservative part of the city
- Eat early in the sitting. Buffets on a two-hour cruise thin out fast
- Sort the return before you sail. Everyone disembarks at once. Either have a driver waiting or accept a wait

Is there a cheaper way to see Dubai Creek than a dinner cruise?
Yes, and we will say so. The traditional abra crossing of Dubai Creek is described by the emirate as costing just one dirham, running every few minutes from six in the morning (visitdubai.com, read 17 August). The Roads and Transport Authority, which actually runs the service, lists Creek crossings in a one to two dirham band depending on route (rta.ae, read 17 August). We trust the operator’s own figure over the tourism board’s headline. Emaar also states the Dubai Fountain can be enjoyed free of charge from the promenade (emaar.com, read 17 August).
Is a dhow cruise suitable for children and do kids pay?
Boats are generally family-friendly, but there is a real safety rule behind it. The Roads and Transport Authority states that unaccompanied children under the age of twelve are not allowed to use marine transport modes, and that children aged twelve and under require life jackets on board (rta.ae, read 17 August). Expect the same discipline on a dinner dhow. On our side, our private road transfers are priced per vehicle, so adding children costs nothing extra on the transport. Do I have to pay a deposit to book a dhow cruise?
Not with us. There is no deposit and no booking fee, and you pay on the day. Cancellation is free up to twelve hours before your pickup, so a changed flight or a sick child does not cost you money. That is deliberately simpler than the industry norm, where you will often meet a prepaid voucher, an administrative percentage held back, and a cancellation deadline counted in days rather than hours. Read whatever you are being sold carefully, whoever sells it, and check when the money actually becomes non-refundable.
Does the dhow cruise include hotel pick up and drop off?
Transfers are almost always a separate line rather than part of the ticket, and on shared coaches the pickup window can start well before the sailing because the vehicle is collecting from several hotels. Our private transfers are priced per vehicle, so children add nothing to the fare and the car goes to your door and waits. If you are staying walking distance from the boarding point, skip the transfer entirely and keep the money. Ask us on WhatsApp for the transfer price from your specific hotel before you commit.
If we have to cancel, what happens?
A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.
If we have to cancel your booking, for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness, we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.
If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.
