A family desert safari in Abu Dhabi with us costs USD 41 (AED 150) per person with hotel pickup, and children under 3 go free. Our own camp at Al Khatim is 45 to 55 minutes from the city, the dune drive is optional for every guest, and swings, a puppet show, henna and sandboarding are free for the kids before a BBQ dinner and three shows.

What Parents Ask First
Under 3s ride, eat and play free. From age 3 a child pays the adult price, USD 41 (AED 150) with hotel pickup.
45 to 55 minutes on the road to our own camp at Al Khatim. Some camps near Abu Dhabi sit about 2.5 hours out.
Optional for everyone. Babies get the gentle drive, and anyone can skip it and reach camp by road.
Swings, a puppet show, a play corner with cushions, sandboarding, henna and a short camel ride, all free.
Children’s food is in the price, with high chairs, juices and cold water. The buffet is halal, with vegetarian dishes.
Back at your hotel by about 10:30 PM, or 10 PM in summer, when pickup moves to around 4 PM.

Add a baby under 3 to any row and the total stays the same. From five paying guests a private car costs less than shared seats, and at six the Land Cruiser does too. On a budget? The shared bus is USD 16 (AED 60) a head and self-drive USD 10 (AED 35).

Baby or Grandparents Skipping the Dunes? Split the Ride, Not the Day
Teenagers want the big dunes; a newborn and a grandmother do not. One booking covers both.
How we handle it
- Whoever skips the dune drive goes to camp by road in a separate Land Cruiser at no cost, and meets the group at camp
- Grandparents can ask the driver to keep every dune gentle
- Pregnant guests and anyone with back or heart trouble go by road, at no extra cost
- Child seats on request, in shared and in private cars
Worth knowing
- Wheelchair users are welcome; a private car is a must, so message us before booking
- Strollers can come, even on the shared transport, but sand is hard going, so a baby carrier is easier
- A private car lets the family leave the city when it suits nap time
At camp
Inside Our Al Khatim Camp for Parents
We built and run this camp ourselves.
A baby changing station, and the team will warm milk for you.
Clean toilets at the camp, with handwashing.
Shaded seating, and the air turns comfortable after about 5 PM, even in summer.
For the extras children always need: snacks, drinks and small things you forgot.
VIP sofa seating with table service, USD 16 (AED 60) per person. A child of 3 or 4 can sit on a lap.

Who Drives Your Children, and Your Booking Terms
Trained before they receive a dune driving permit, with 10+ years at the wheel. Vehicles are insured and fitted with a roll cage.
DCT Abu Dhabi licensed, running our own Al Khatim camp since 2015.
The family pays after the trip, in cash in most currencies or by card with an 8 to 10 percent bank fee. Plans change with children: cancel or move free up to 12 hours before pickup.

Are kids allowed on a desert safari, and is there a minimum age?
Yes. There is no minimum age and we do not check IDs. Babies under 3 come free and get the gentle dune drive, and from age 3 children pay the same price as adults.
Is a desert safari safe for toddlers?
Yes, when the drive matches the child. Our drivers hold a dune driving permit and have 10+ years of experience, every seat has a belt, and the vehicles have a roll cage. With a toddler you can ask for the gentle drive or skip the dunes and go straight to camp by road.
Do you provide car seats for babies and toddlers?
Yes, on request, in shared and in private cars. Tell us your child’s age when you book so the right seat is fitted before pickup.
Which desert safari is best for a family in Abu Dhabi?
Pick a camp that is close, has something for children to do and lets you control the drive. Ours is 45 to 55 minutes from the city, the kids’ corner is free, and the dune drive is optional for every guest.
What should children wear on a desert safari?
Light clothes that cover the shoulders, closed shoes or sandals with straps for the sand, sunglasses and a cap. From November to February bring a jacket for the evening at camp.
Is there an overnight safari for families?
Yes. The overnight safari is USD 109 (AED 400) per person (minimum 5 guests) with one private tent for the family, dinner, the shows and breakfast. The trip runs in a private car, so the minimum charge is for 5 guests, USD 545 (AED 2,000); under 3s stay free.
