Skip it if

You get badly motion sick, your evenings are already booked, or you want silence. The morning or overnight trips suit you better.

The honest part

Who Should Skip the Evening Safari

We sell this trip every day and would still tell these guests to book something else.

  1. You get badly motion sickThe dune drive is rolling and sideways. You can sit it out at camp, but then the headline act is gone.
  2. You are pregnant or have a back injuryDune bashing is not for you. The camp, the dinner and the shows still are, if you skip the drive on the sand.
  3. Your evenings are already plannedThe trip takes the whole afternoon and night. A morning desert safari leaves your evening free.
  4. You want silence and starsThe camp is lively and lit. For a quiet night, the overnight safari or a private morning suits you better.

What Is Amazing, What Is Fine, What You Can Skip

AmazingGuest watching the sun set over the dunes on an Abu Dhabi evening safari
Sunset · the reason to go
FineBelly dancer performing on the camp stage after dinner
The shows · fun, not the highlight
Amazing

The dune drive with a skilled driver, and sunset from a high ridge. Most reviews mention one of the two.

Fine

The buffet is hearty and plentiful, not fine dining. The camel ride is short. Both are good; neither is the reason to go.

Skippable

Buying a costume or souvenir photos at camp. Wearing the costume for your own photos is free.

Questions

Is It Worth It? Your Questions

Is the evening desert safari worth the money for a first visit?

Yes. About seven hours with the dune drive, a camel ride, sandboarding, sunset, a BBQ dinner and three shows costs from USD 16 per person by shared bus, or USD 41 with hotel pickup.

How long is the evening desert safari in Abu Dhabi?

About seven hours door to door: pickup around 3 PM, or 4 PM from May to September, and back between 9:30 and 10:30 PM.

Is the dune bashing scary?

It is thrilling rather than scary for most guests. It lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, the drivers are licensed for the dunes, and you can ask your driver to go gentler.

Can I skip the dune bashing and still come?

Yes. Tell us when you book and you can wait at camp or ride a calmer route, then join the camel ride, dinner and shows.

Is the evening safari worth it with children?

Usually yes. Children enjoy the camel, the sand and the shows, and food for them is included. The only catch is the late finish, around 10:30 PM.

Is a private car worth the extra cost?

For three or more guests, yes. A private car is USD 190 for up to 7, so it costs about the same per head as shared seats and runs on your timing.

Is the evening safari worth it in summer?

It runs year round with a later pickup from May to September. The first hour on the sand is hot, so many summer guests choose the morning trip instead.

What is not worth paying extra for?

Buying a costume or souvenir prints at camp. Wearing the costume for photos on your own phone is free.
