Why We Drive All the Way to Lahbab for the Red Dunes
Look, plenty of companies sell a red dune safari in Dubai, and some never actually reach the red sand. A few stop at Lahbab for photographs, then drive their guests back to a camp on paler dunes. Honestly, that annoys us, because the colour is the entire reason you booked. Quick local tip, by the way. Anybody quoting a red dune safari in an ordinary saloon car isn’t actually taking you to Lahbab.
Here’s how our evening actually works. Your own Land Cruiser takes the E44, the Dubai to Hatta highway, right out to Lahbab. Allow about 1 hour 10 from the city, a little longer on a busy Friday. Our driver attacks the dunes on that deep orange sand, then pauses on a crest for sunset. Only afterwards do we continue to our Lahbab camp for dinner.
Trust us, timing is everything out there. The red looks richest during the final hour before sunset. At midday the identical sand turns flat and almost beige, which is a real disappointment in photographs. That’s why we calculate your pickup backwards from the sunset. You mention the date, and honestly, we worry about the clock.

What to Bring on a Red Dune Desert Safari in Dubai
Out at Lahbab you travel from hot sand to a chilly camp within a few hours. Our drivers answer questions about these six things every single week.
Light, long, loose clothing keeps the sunshine and sand off your skin. Closed shoes beat sandals, because warm sand gets absolutely everywhere.
From December to February the camp temperature drops to around 15°C to 17°C. Bring a light jacket or shawl, you’ll thank us during the performances.
The evening wind whips fine red sand off the crests. A scarf and sunglasses protect your eyes, and honestly your expensive phone too.
A falcon photograph costs approximately AED 10 to 30, roughly USD 3 to 8. Credit cards work, although they add an 8 to 10% fee.
Toilets are separate for men and women. You sit majlis style on carpets and cushions, right beside the covered buffet.
Keep lunch light. A heavy meal immediately before dune bashing is honestly the quickest way to regret everything.
Cars and safety
Land Cruisers, Safety and Comfort on the Lahbab Dunes
Lahbab sand is softer and steeper than most desert around Dubai. Honestly, that’s exactly why the vehicle, the driver and a few sensible habits matter more out here.
We send only Land Cruisers to Lahbab, because lighter vehicles genuinely sink in that soft red sand. Each one seats up to 7 guests comfortably.
Every Land Cruiser we take onto Lahbab is fitted with a roll cage. Seat belts stay fastened throughout the dune run, absolutely no exceptions.
Your driver reduces the tyre pressure beside the dunes. It feels strange for a minute, then the vehicle floats across the sand instead of digging in.
It usually affects passengers in the back row. Tell your driver early, and he’ll slow down, rearrange the seating or stop completely.
From June to August, the sand stays hot until sunset. So we keep the dune run shorter and reach the shaded camp sooner.
Pregnancy, back trouble or a heart condition? Please skip the dune bashing. We organise transport to camp by road, and the evening continues normally.

Where the Red Dunes Are, and Why the Sand Is Red
Lahbab (لهباب) sits off the E44 Dubai to Hatta road, about 50 to 60 km south-east of Downtown. Its sand carries a thin coating of iron oxide, which is basically rust. That coating turns the dunes deep orange, especially in low evening light.

Where We Collect You for a Red Dune Desert Safari in Dubai
We’ll collect you from any hotel, villa or apartment in Dubai, and that part’s included. Lahbab sits further out than most safari camps, though. So where you’re staying shifts your pickup a little. Roughly, compared with Downtown:
- Deira, Bur Dubai and near DXB. Approximately 5 minutes later than Downtown, because you begin closer to the E44.
- Downtown Dubai and Business Bay. Our reference location, roughly 1 hour 10 from the red dunes.
- Al Barsha and Al Quoz. Approximately 10 minutes earlier, because afternoon traffic increases on the main highways.
- Dubai Marina, JBR and Palm Jumeirah. Approximately 20 minutes earlier, so you still experience the sunset on the dunes.
- Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi. We collect there too. Message your address, and we confirm the price beforehand.
Running late from a meeting or a flight? Just message us early. Your driver can wait up to an hour, but leave it too late and you’ll miss the sunset.
The camp at night
Dinner, Shows and the Shared Camp at Lahbab
Here’s something other companies conveniently skip. On every red dune desert safari in Dubai, your car is private, but the camp is shared. We’d rather you hear it from us now than feel disappointed at a busy camp later.
Dinner is a halal BBQ buffet, mostly Arabic and Indian specialities off the grill. Vegetarians definitely won’t go hungry, we promise. Water and soft drinks are complimentary with dinner, so don’t bother buying bottles.

We drive our own Land Cruisers to the Lahbab red dunes every week. Royal Arabian Safari Tourism LLC is a DTCM-Licensed Operator in Dubai. We have operated desert trips across the UAE since 2015. Here are six things our drivers tell guests before a red dune desert safari in Dubai.
- Leave the city before 4 PM in winter. Afternoon traffic on the E44 builds after school hours. An early start keeps the sunset safely on the dunes.
- The red is strongest after 4:30 PM. Low sun brings out the iron colour. At noon the same sand looks flat and pale, almost beige.
- Lahbab sand is softer than Al Awir. That is why we send only Land Cruisers there. Ordinary cars and small SUVs simply get stuck.
- Friday and Saturday camps are busiest. Weekend evenings fill fast. Book VIP seats if you want calm near the stage.
- Winter nights feel colder out here. In January the Dubai low is about 15°C, and the open desert feels cooler in the wind.
- Summer evenings still work. From June to August, sunset arrives after 7 PM. So we collect you around 5 and keep the dune run shorter.

Is dinner included, and is there vegetarian food?
Yes, it’s a halal BBQ buffet with Arabic and Indian dishes, and there’s always proper vegetarian food. Water and soft drinks are unlimited during dinner.
Which shows are included?
Three live performances on the camp stage: tanoura, a fire show and belly dancing. During Ramadan the belly dance is dropped, out of respect for the holy month.
Is the camp private?
No, and we’d rather be upfront about it. Your Land Cruiser is private, while the camp is shared with other visitors. VIP seats beside the stage, with dinner delivered personally, cost USD 14 (AED 50) per guest.
Can I add a quad bike on the red dunes?
Yes, absolutely, an open desert quad at Lahbab costs USD 54 (AED 200) for a single. A double is USD 82 (AED 300). We confirm your riding time on WhatsApp.
Can I drive a dune buggy at Lahbab?
Yes, definitely, a 2-seat Can-Am costs USD 218 (AED 800) for 30 minutes. The 4-seat version costs USD 327 (AED 1,200), and a helmet plus safety briefing are included.
How long is the camel ride?
It lasts about 5 minutes, with a handler leading the camel, and honestly it’s more photo opportunity than journey. A longer ride is possible, and we mention the price first.
Is the red dune safari suitable for children?
Yes, families do it constantly. Under 3s travel free on a lap, and child seats in the vehicle are complimentary. From age 3, children pay the standard adult price.
Can I go if I am pregnant or have back problems?
Yes, but please skip the dune bashing. We organise a separate vehicle to the camp by road, so you still enjoy everything else.
Can wheelchair users join?
Yes, in the private vehicle. Please message us before booking, so we can organise the route and camp seating properly.
Which month is best for the red dunes?
November to March is the sweet spot, with warm afternoons and comfortable evenings. Summer still works though, because pickup moves to after 5 PM.
Is there a morning red dune safari?
Yes. Our morning desert safari in Dubai can go to Lahbab too, same USD 272 per car. No dinner or shows on that one, and you’re back before lunch.
What should I wear?
Light, long, loose clothing, closed shoes, sunglasses and a scarf. From December to February, add a light jacket for the camp after dark.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes, cancellation is free up to 12 hours before pickup. If the weather turns dangerous, we reschedule your evening or release you with nothing owed.
How do I pay?
You pay on the day, with no deposit required. Cash is honestly easiest, and credit cards carry an additional 8 to 10% fee.
