Abu Dhabi Layover Tour Packages and Prices, per Car

One private car, four ways to book it: the Express run for a short gap, or the longer tour when you have half a day free. Prices are per car, never per seat, and include our up to 30% off for a limited time.

Pick by layover length. Our private Abu Dhabi layover tours from AUH run roughly 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours, each with airport pickup in Terminal A. Count from scheduled landing to scheduled take-off; every plan already allows about an hour to get out of Terminal A and 3 hours back before departure.

Will it fit?

How Long a Layover Do You Need for an Abu Dhabi Tour?

Six hours between flights is the honest minimum. Your ticket shows the gap, but two blocks come off it before you see anything: about an hour to clear immigration and reach the car, and the 3 hours we keep before departure. Put your own times in and see what is left.

5 h with the car

The longer tour fits: mosque, palaces and the Corniche, or the dunes instead, from USD 245 (AED 899) per car.

Landing to the car: about 1 hour

Immigration at Zayed International can take 20 to 45 minutes when several long-haul flights land together, then the walk out to arrivals.

Back at departures: 3 hours ahead

Etihad opens check-in 4 hours before departure and closes it 60 minutes before in Economy, 45 in Business and First. Our 3-hour margin covers the drive, traffic and the queue.

Flying to the United States: 4 hours

US flights clear American border control at the Abu Dhabi preclearance facility, and Etihad asks you to be at Terminal A four hours before departure. Tick the box above.

Planning a long gap hour by hour? Our long layover in Abu Dhabi guide breaks down 6, 10, 15 and 24 hours. Staying inside the terminal? The Abu Dhabi airport layover guide covers lounges, showers, places to sleep and the transit hotel.

Airport pickup

Meet and Greet at AUH: How Your Driver Meets You in Terminal A

Every flight at Abu Dhabi now uses one building, Terminal A, so there is no terminal to guess. Here is the whole run, from booking to departures.

Met at arrivals
  1. Before you flySend both flight numbers on WhatsApp. We confirm the plan and the price, and you get your driver’s direct number.
  2. While you are in the airWe follow your inbound flight, so an early or late landing moves the pickup with it.
  3. After immigrationYour driver meets you at the arrivals pickup point of Terminal A and walks you to the car.
  4. Bags in the bootSuitcases and hand luggage go in the car and stay with your driver until you are back at the terminal. No storage counter, no lockers.
  5. If your flight is lateWe shorten the route to protect your departure, or move the tour if the delay leaves too little time. A late inbound flight costs you nothing extra.
  6. Back to departuresYour driver drops you at the Terminal A departures kerb 3 hours before your next flight, 4 if you are flying to the United States.

Leaving the airport

Can You Leave Abu Dhabi Airport During a Layover?

For most travellers, yes. The visa requirements depend only on your passport, and you settle them with the authorities or your airline before you fly, not with us.

Visa-free or visa on arrival

Many passports, including the UK, most of Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, are simply stamped in at immigration.

Transit visa needed

Etihad arranges 48 hours for AED 55 or 96 hours for AED 216, with a passport valid six months; allow about four working days. Neither extends.

Cannot leave the airport

Then book a lounge or the transit hotel. We never take a booking you cannot use.

Every rule, fee and source is on our Abu Dhabi transit visa page. Final word always rests with the UAE ICP and your airline.

Six things our drivers tell every layover guest at arrivals

  1. Your driver is at Terminal A arrivals, and hand luggage goes straight into the locked car.
  2. Back three hours before boarding. We plan backwards from your departure time, not forwards from the landing.
  3. Mosque first, while it is quiet. The Grand Mosque is about 25 minutes from the terminal and opens at 9 AM.
  4. Bring the right clothes: loose, covering arms and legs, plus a headscarf for women. Entry costs AED 10.
  5. Up to 7 guests per car, one price for the car, so a family of five pays what a couple pays.
  6. Pay the driver on the day. No deposit, free cancellation up to 12 hours before, card fee 8 to 10 percent.

Questions

Abu Dhabi Layover Tour Questions

How much does an Abu Dhabi layover tour cost?

From USD 190 (AED 699) for the whole car on the 2 to 4 hour Express run, or USD 245 (AED 899) for the longer city or desert tour. In our Land Cruiser it is USD 272 (AED 999) and USD 326 (AED 1,199). Up to 7 guests share one price, and airport pickup, the return to departures, fuel, tolls and parking are included.

What can I do on a 6-hour layover in Abu Dhabi?

One stop, done properly: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, about 25 minutes from the terminal. After immigration and the 3-hour return margin you have roughly 2 hours with the car, which is exactly what the Express run is built for.

What can I do on a 7 or 8 hour layover in Abu Dhabi?

Take 4 hours off the gap, 1 for landing and 3 for the return margin, and the rest is yours. Seven hours leaves about 3 with the car: the Grand Mosque, then a slow drive past Emirates Palace and along the Corniche. Eight hours adds a stop at the Qasr Al Watan gates and lunch. Both run on the Express price.

Will I get back to the airport in time for my flight?

Your day is planned backwards from your departure. The driver has you at Terminal A departures 3 hours before take-off, or 4 hours for a flight to the United States, and if your window is too tight we decline the booking rather than risk your connection.

Where does my luggage go during the tour?

In the boot of your car, with your driver, for the whole tour. You do not need the left-luggage counter, and you take nothing but a day bag into the mosque. Tell us how many suitcases you have when you book, so we send a car they fit in.

Is my driver a licensed tour guide?

Your driver speaks English and talks you through the city between stops, but he is a driver-guide, not a licensed tour guide. If you want a licensed guide with you inside the mosque or the palace, ask when you book and we arrange one at extra cost.

What if my incoming flight is delayed?

We follow your flight number, so the pickup moves with your real landing time. If the delay eats into the tour, we shorten the route; if leaving the airport is no longer safe for your connection, we cancel and you pay nothing.

Is there an Etihad layover tour from Abu Dhabi airport?

Etihad sells stopovers, transit visas and hotels, not a private car that waits for you. We are an independent, DCT-licensed operator and collect passengers of every airline at Terminal A. Etihad passengers who need a transit visa apply for it through Etihad.

Is a layover tour a good idea with children?

Yes, if the gap is long enough that nobody rushes. Tell us the ages and ask for child seats when you book; you stop for food or a rest whenever the children need it. Wheelchair users are welcome too; message us first so we send the right car.

Can I go to Dubai on an Abu Dhabi layover?

Yes, with a long enough gap. Dubai is roughly 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi airport by road each way, so our airport to Dubai city tour is USD 408 (AED 1,500) per car and suits a full day between flights.

Is Royal Arabian Safari a licensed layover tour company?

Yes. We are licensed by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, drive our own cars, and are rated 4.9 from more than 10,000 guest reviews. Every layover tour is private: your group, your car, your driver.

Is it safe to have a layover in Abu Dhabi right now?

Zayed International Airport is open and Etihad is flying its schedule, as reported in September 2026, but regional conditions can change at short notice. Check your airline and your own government travel advice before you fly. If your flight is cancelled or rerouted, cancel with us free of charge, since nothing is paid in advance.

Do I go through security again when I come back?

Yes. You clear passport control and customs on the way out, and coming back means departures again: check-in if your bags travel with you, passport control and the security screening. That is why we keep 3 hours before your flight, 4 for the United States.

Is an Abu Dhabi layover tour worth it?

With 6 hours or more in daylight, yes: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is about 25 minutes from the terminal, and one car with your bags in the boot removes the hassle of taxis. Under 6 hours, or landing in the middle of the night, the lounge is the better choice.

Abu Dhabi or Dubai for a layover?

Abu Dhabi suits a shorter gap: the Grand Mosque is about 25 minutes from the terminal and one terminal handles every flight. Dubai has more to see but longer drives between sights. We run both; if you change planes in Dubai, see our Dubai airport layover tour.

Is there a free layover tour or programme in Abu Dhabi?

We do not run free tours. Etihad runs a stopover programme with hotel nights for some fares, explained on our Etihad stopover page. A private layover car with us starts at USD 190 (AED 699) for the whole car.

Can I join a group layover tour instead of a private car?

We only run private cars on layovers, because a shared coach leaves on its own schedule, not yours. With 3 or more guests, the per-car price is often less per person than separate seats.

Can I visit the BAPS Hindu Mandir on a layover?

Yes, on a longer layover. The mandir needs a free online registration before the visit, and the drive adds time, so plan on the longer tour. See our city tour with BAPS Hindu Mandir.

Can I do a layover tour at night or very early in the morning?

Yes, the car runs at any hour. Regular visits end at 8.30 PM, but from 9 PM to 9 AM the official Sura night tour lets you inside, booked ahead on the mosque website, so a night tour can still include the lit courtyard. The full after-dark plan is on our night layover tour page.

Is there an AUH transit tour or an Abu Dhabi airport city tour?

Yes, this is it. Our AUH transit tour leaves Terminal A arrivals in a private car, covers the city sights your hours allow, and returns you to departures 3 hours before take off. The price is per car, from USD 190 (AED 699).

Any tips for American travellers on an Abu Dhabi layover tour?

Two. US passports get a free visa on arrival, so you walk straight out to meet your driver. If your next flight goes to the United States, you clear US Preclearance in Terminal A before boarding, so we bring you back 4 hours before departure, not 3.

Can I see the Grand Mosque and the Louvre on an 8-hour layover?

Yes, but only with a daytime landing and only if you keep it to two stops. Out of 8 hours, about 1 hour goes on getting out of Terminal A and about 3 hours on being back early, which leaves roughly 4 hours in the city: the mosque is about 25 minutes from the airport, the Louvre on Saadiyat about 25 minutes from the mosque. Louvre galleries open 10 AM to 6.30 PM Monday to Thursday and to 8.30 PM Friday to Sunday, with last entry 30 minutes before; the mosque closes to visitors on Friday from 11.30 AM to 2.30 PM. If either one falls outside those hours, we make it a photo stop instead. Our 6 to 8 hour private car is USD 190 (AED 699) per car. Hours checked on louvreabudhabi.ae and szgmc.gov.ae, October 2026.
