Dubai to Abu Dhabi taxi fare, answered

How much is a taxi from Dubai to Abu Dhabi?

Expect AED 300 to 385 for a metered Dubai taxi, which is around USD 82 to 105. The meter starts at AED 5 and charges AED 2.45 for every kilometre, with Salik added on top.

Can the same taxi bring me back?

Not usually. Dubai Taxi only covers journeys beginning in Dubai, so it cannot collect you in Abu Dhabi. Waiting costs AED 0.50 a minute, which is AED 30 for every hour you spend sightseeing.

Is the train cheaper?

The Etihad Rail seat costs from AED 39, but the station sits at Al Yalayis near Jumeirah Golf Estates. Including taxis at both ends, a family usually spends three hours or more travelling.

What does a private car cost?

Our private car costs USD 327 (AED 1,200) one way, carrying up to 7 passengers comfortably. A complete day, with the driver waiting and returning you to Dubai, costs USD 408 (AED 1,500).

What a Dubai taxi charges to each part of Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is surprisingly spread out, because Yas Island sits roughly 30 km before the old city. That distance alone is worth about AED 75 on the meter. The figures below are calculated from Downtown Dubai. Deduct roughly AED 50 when departing from Dubai Marina or JBR. Starting in Deira or Al Qusais, add about AED 35.

Calculated with the Dubai Taxi street tariff of AED 5 plus AED 2.45 per kilometre. Salik, Darb and any waiting in traffic are charged additionally. Our private car charges one fixed price to every stop listed.

The Dubai Taxi tariff behind the fare

Dubai Taxi publishes its rates, and they apply to the entire journey across the emirate border. Here is what the meter uses, as listed by Dubai Taxi in November 2026.

ChargeStreet taxiBooked in an app
Starting fareAED 5 by day, AED 5.50 from 10 PMAED 9 to 13, highest at rush hour
Per kilometreAED 2.45AED 2.45
Waiting, per minuteAED 0.50AED 0.50
Minimum fareAED 12AED 13
From DXB airport rankAED 25 starting fareNot listed

A worked example helps: Downtown Dubai to the Grand Mosque measures approximately 130 kilometres. The AED 5 start plus 130 kilometres at AED 2.45 gives AED 323.50. Two Salik gates at the evening rate add AED 12, so the final receipt shows roughly AED 335.

Salik on the way out, Darb on the way in

Leaving Dubai along Sheikh Zayed Road you usually cross one to four Salik gates, depending on your starting location. Each costs AED 6 during rush hour and AED 4 otherwise. Both Al Safa gates count once within an hour. In Abu Dhabi a Dubai taxi may also pay Darb, which is AED 4 per gate at peak times. Abu Dhabi taxis are exempt, but visiting Dubai taxis are not.

Rules that catch visitors out

  • The AED 20 surcharge people mention applies to Sharjah trips, not to the Abu Dhabi road.
  • Dubai Taxi only serves journeys originating in Dubai. Once you reach Abu Dhabi, that vehicle returns home empty.
  • Waiting costs AED 30 an hour, which accumulates quickly during a mosque visit and a leisurely lunch.
  • A standard sedan boot holds two large suitcases. Families with additional luggage need a bigger vehicle or two separate taxis.

Seven ways from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, compared

Your accommodation location in Dubai matters as much as the price. Marina guests are close to Ibn Battuta and the railway station. Deira and Bur Dubai are located nearer Al Ghubaiba.

Taking the bus from Dubai

Two RTA routes run to Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station. The E101 departs Ibn Battuta and takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes for AED 25. The E100 departs Al Ghubaiba, takes closer to 2 hours 10 minutes and costs AED 30. Passengers pay using a Nol card. From the Abu Dhabi terminal you will still need a taxi to reach the attractions.

Catching Etihad Rail from Dubai

The Dubai station, Al Yalayis, opened on 30 September 2026. It connects to Jumeirah Golf Estates on the metro Red Line by a pedestrian link. Trains reach Mohamed Bin Zayed City station, opposite Dalma Mall, in about an hour. Comfort class tickets start at AED 39.

From there, a shuttle to the Corniche, ADNEC or Reem Mall costs AED 10, booked with your rail ticket. It is a comfortable, affordable ride, although the timetable decides when you leave Abu Dhabi. For a Grand Mosque visit with children, most families still find a private car simpler.

A Grand Mosque day trip: taxis or a driver who waits?

Most people researching this route want an identical day out. They visit the mosque in the morning, enjoy lunch on the Corniche and return to Dubai for dinner. Here is how the total costs compare for that particular itinerary.

Dubai taxi out, Abu Dhabi taxi back

About AED 640

  • AED 335 out, AED 300 back, plus tolls
  • Additional taxis between each attraction
  • Maximum four passengers in one sedan

About AED 1,280

USD 408 (AED 1,500)

  • Up to seven guests travelling together
  • Mosque, Corniche and any additional stop
  • Every toll and all parking included

In our experience, couples on a budget do fine with two taxis. Groups of five or more usually spend about the same with us, without the evening scramble for a ride. Want commentary and a planned route as well? Our Abu Dhabi city tour from Dubai adds a guide to the same car.

How our Dubai pickups work

Royal Arabian Safari is a licensed Abu Dhabi operator running since 2015. Our drivers work in Dubai every day on desert safaris and city tours. They know the hotel driveways from the Palm to Deira.

Collected at your door

We collect from any hotel, apartment or office in Dubai, including JBR, Business Bay, Al Barsha and the Palm. Drop a pin in the booking form and your driver finds you.

A car that fits the family

Choose a 7 seater 4×4 such as a Previa or Patrol, or a Land Cruiser. Every vehicle offers air conditioning, seat belts for everyone and complimentary child seats on request.

Tolls already paid

Salik leaving Dubai, Darb inside Abu Dhabi, fuel and mosque parking are included. Nothing additional is charged afterwards.

Your timetable

Start early to beat the mosque crowds, or leave in the evening for a flight from Zayed International. Your driver confirms the time on WhatsApp.

Flying out of Abu Dhabi instead? We drop at Zayed International Airport for the same one way price. Our Abu Dhabi to Dubai taxi fare guide covers the trip in the other direction.

If we have to cancel, what happens?

A cancellation policy that covers your obligations but not ours is only half a document. Here is our side of it, in writing.

If we have to cancel your booking, for weather, a vehicle issue, or driver illness, we will contact you as soon as we know and rebook you at no charge on the next date that works for you. You pay nothing for the cancelled booking.

If we need to send a different vehicle than the one you booked, we will ask you first rather than turning up in something you did not book.

This is separate from your own cancellation rights, which are unchanged: you can cancel free up to 12 hours before pickup. Because we take no deposit and no booking fee, there is no money of yours sitting with us either way: nothing to chase, and nothing to wait for.
