Emirates Dubai Stopover
How to book it, what the hotel deal covers, and private tours to fill the days.
Emirates runs two different things. Dubai Connect is free: a hotel, meals, a coach and a 48-hour visa when the airline could not give you a shorter connection. A Dubai stopover is paid: extra nights you add to your ticket on purpose. Neither gives you a car for the hours in between. That is where we come in, with a private driver at DXB arrivals from USD 190 per car. That is USD 27 per person when seven share the car.
AED 699 · per car for 4 hours, up to 7 guests
Burj Khalifa, the Fountain and the Frame · bags stay in the car

The short answer
Emirates Dubai Stopover in Five Lines
Most confusion online comes from two Emirates products with similar names. Here is the difference before the detail.

Hotel, meals, coach transfers and a 48-hour visa, only when Emirates could not sell you a shorter connection.
Nights you add to your ticket on purpose, on the way out or back, built in Emirates’ Dubai Experience planner.
A day before your flight into Dubai to be safe, through Manage Booking, an Emirates office or your travel agent.
You get a bed and a coach that runs to its own timetable. The hours in between are yours to fill.
Under 5 hours between flights, stay airside. 5 to 8 hours, see Downtown and old Dubai. Over 8, a real day.
A private car and driver at DXB arrivals or your Dubai Connect hotel, any hour, from USD 190 per car.

Emirates Dubai Connect vs a Paid Dubai Stopover

The free hotel
Emirates Dubai Connect Rules: Who Gets the Free Hotel
Read plainly, without the forum folklore, this is what Emirates says the service includes and who qualifies.

- A complimentary hotel stayWith the applicable meals in the booking. The card asked for at check-in covers your own extras, such as the mini-bar, not the room.
- A complimentary 48-hour visaWhere your nationality needs one, arranged at least 48 hours before arrival or issued on arrival, subject to UAE immigration approval.
- A complimentary coachAirport to hotel and back, arranged at the Dubai Connect desk in arrivals.
- Booked a day ahead to be safeThe main page says at least 12 hours before your flight to Dubai, but the further conditions accept bookings only 24 hours before the inbound flight leaves. Use Manage Booking, an Emirates office or your travel agent. It is never automatic.
- A connection of 6 to 26 hoursThe terms set that window between your arrival in Dubai and your onward departure.
- Under-18s with an adultPassengers under 18 can use it when travelling with someone over 18.
The line people miss: you qualify only when there was no shorter connection to choose on your route. Pick the long connection on purpose and the free hotel is not owed. That one sentence explains most of the refusals posted online. The full programme detail sits on our Emirates Dubai Connect guide.
The honest gap
What Dubai Connect Does Not Give You
We are a Dubai transport company, so read this knowing what we sell. It is still true: you are given a bed, not the city.
It runs airport to hotel and back on a fixed schedule, and goes nowhere else.
Emirates places you wherever it has space that night, which can be far from what you wanted to see.
Nothing in the package tells you if the time left after immigration and the coach queue is enough to reach the Burj Khalifa and get back.
The paid option
The Emirates Stopover Program and Package: What It Includes
Emirates sells the stopover as an add-on to your flights, separate from the free Dubai Connect hotel. On its own stopover page, Emirates lists the following.

On the outbound trip or the return, and you can add it to a trip you have already booked.
Hotels, attractions, tours and flights together, or a ready-made 24-hour or 48-hour Dubai highlights package.
Savings on the flight fare, 24-hour hotel check-in and flexible cancellation for trips booked this way.
Your boarding pass works as a discount card at hundreds of Dubai restaurants, attractions and spas.
Emirates does not print package prices on that page: the hotel, dates and passport decide them, and you see the total in the planner. Travellers report the fare can rise against a straight connection and the visa is paid separately, so compare the total before you commit. Read the offer on Emirates’ Dubai stopover page.
Your real hours
How Many Hours Do You Really Have at DXB?
The connection time on your ticket is not the time you can spend. Take it and subtract honestly.
The Dubai layover guide turns those hours into a plan for 4, 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours.
| Step | Realistic time | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Aircraft door to immigration | 15 to 30 min | DXB is long; a far gate adds a train ride and a walk |
| Immigration | 10 to 45 min | Depends on how many wide-bodies landed with you |
| Bags, if any | 20 to 40 min | Skip it when bags are checked through |
| Back through security | 20 to 40 min | Departure peaks at DXB are busy |
| Buffer you never spend | 60 min | Sheikh Zayed Road traffic is not an emergency if you left room |
| Usable city time | Connection minus 3 to 4 hours | A 7-hour connection is about 3 hours in the city |

Visa and Bags on an Emirates Stopover
Emirates includes a 48-hour visa where your nationality needs one and asks for it to be arranged at least 48 hours before arrival.
Bag rates by terminal are on Dubai airport luggage storage.
Entry depends on your passport: see Dubai visa on arrival or the Dubai transit visa guide, and confirm with Emirates early.
Checked bags usually fly straight through. Anything you carry stays in our car for the whole tour, with no storage fee.

Six Mistakes on a Dubai Stopover, and When Not to Leave
Stay in the terminal if the connection is under five hours, you land on the last bank with a first-thing departure and need sleep, or the onward flight is the only one that day.

- Planning from the connection timeSubtract three to four hours before you decide anything.
- Assuming the free hotel is automaticDubai Connect must be booked ahead and only applies when no shorter connection existed.
- Waiting for the coach both waysIts timetable can eat the hours you meant to use.
- Booking a shared bus tourIt collects other guests from other hotels first; on a stopover that lost hour is the trip.
- Joining the 3 AM taxi rankThe tariff is fine; the queue after a wide-body arrival is not. See Dubai airport taxi fares.
- Not sharing your flight numberA driver who is not tracking your inbound turns a delay into a missed pickup.

Taking advantage of a stopover of our plane we did a 3-hour tour with Tamour and we got to know the most significant sites in Dubai and we were able to shop in the souk. I highly recommend this activity and especially Tamour!

Your Emirates Stopover, Run by a Licensed Dubai Operator
Emirates gives you the ticket and, if you qualify, the bed. We are a DTCM-licensed Dubai operator with our own drivers, and these are the planning points our team uses with Emirates stopover guests between the coach, the hotel and the city.

- Licensed in DubaiA DTCM-licensed operator, part of Royal Arabian Safari Tourism LLC, in the UAE since 2015.
- Our desert campsAl Awir, 50 to 55 minutes from the city, and Lahbab, about 1 hour 10. See Al Awir on Google Maps

Six things we plan around on an Emirates stopover
- Your Emirates hotel sets the route. Dubai Connect rooms are at the Copthorne Hotel Dubai, the Le Méridien Airport Hotel Dubai or the JW Marriott Marquis, per Emirates. From the first two, near DXB, Old Dubai and the creek are the short run; from the Marquis in Business Bay, Downtown is on the doorstep.
- Room not ready yet? Land early and the hotel may make you wait for the room. We can collect you from the lobby and start the city first, then bring you back to check in.
- Keep your boarding pass. On a stopover it doubles as a My Emirates Pass for discounts at Dubai restaurants and attractions, so have it on your phone when we stop.
- Hotel changed? Tell us. If Emirates moves you to a different hotel on the night, send us the new name on WhatsApp and the pickup moves with you.
- Gate deadlines are Emirates rules, not ours. Emirates asks Economy passengers to be at the gate 60 minutes before departure. We plan the drive back to DXB with that time built in, never the other way round.
- Pay us, not the package. Our car is booked and paid separately from your Emirates stopover, on the day, so a change on the Emirates side is just a WhatsApp message to move your pickup, free up to 12 hours before.

Questions
Emirates Dubai Stopover Questions
Does Emirates have free stopovers in Dubai?
Emirates has a free service called Dubai Connect, which is not quite a stopover. When Emirates could not offer you a shorter connection, it covers a hotel, applicable meals, coach transfers and a 48-hour visa where needed. A Dubai stopover is extra nights you add on purpose, and you pay for those.
Does Emirates give a free hotel for a long layover in Dubai?
Yes, through Dubai Connect when your itinerary qualifies: a hotel with applicable meals and a complimentary coach. You must book it before your flight to Dubai, ideally 24 hours ahead, and then go to the Dubai Connect desk in arrivals. It does not apply if a shorter connection was available and you chose the longer one.
What are the Emirates Dubai Connect rules?
You qualify only when no shorter connection existed on your route, your connection is between 6 and 26 hours, you book before the flight into Dubai (Emirates says 12 hours, its further conditions say 24), and under-18s travel with an adult. Emirates then provides the hotel, applicable meals, the coach and a 48-hour visa where your nationality needs one.
How much does an Emirates Dubai stopover package cost?
Emirates does not publish a fixed price. You build the package in its Dubai Experience planner and the total depends on the hotel, your dates and your passport. Compare it with your normal fare, because travellers report the fare can rise and the visa is paid separately.
How do I book the Emirates stopover program?
On emirates.com, pick Book a Dubai Stopover, or add the stopover while booking a trip through Dubai, on the way out or on the way back. It can also be added to a trip you have already booked, through Manage Booking, an Emirates office or your travel agent. The hotel, tours and stopover perks are then chosen in the Dubai Experience planner.
Do I need a visa for a Dubai stopover?
On Dubai Connect, Emirates includes a 48-hour visa where your nationality needs one. Otherwise it depends on your passport: many are stamped in on arrival, others need a visa arranged before travel. Confirm with Emirates or the UAE authorities early.
Is a Dubai stopover worth it?
With more than five clear hours and some energy, yes. Downtown is roughly 15 minutes from DXB in normal traffic and the main sights sit close together. On a short gap or in the middle of the night before a long flight, rest in a lounge instead.
Can you pick me up from my Dubai Connect hotel?
Yes, and for many guests it is the better plan. Take the Emirates coach, check in, leave your bags, and we collect you at the hotel door for a city or night tour, then bring you back. Send us the hotel name once Emirates confirms it.
Will the driver wait if my flight is delayed?
Yes. We track the inbound flight, so the pickup moves with the aircraft and a delay costs you nothing.
Is a taxi cheaper than a private stopover tour?
For one or two people with one stop, often yes, and we will say so. With three or more of you, or several stops, a private car usually works out cheaper because the price covers the whole car and all the waiting.
How much is a private Dubai stopover tour?
Per car for up to 7 guests: USD 190 (AED 699) for 4 hours, USD 218 (AED 799) for 6, USD 272 (AED 999) for 8 and USD 354 (AED 1,299) overnight. In a Land Cruiser it is USD 272, 299, 381 and 463. Pickup, drop-off, fuel, Salik tolls, parking and waiting are included.
Does Etihad offer a free stopover like Emirates?
Etihad runs its own Abu Dhabi stopover offers with hotel nights, with different rules from Emirates. If you connect in Abu Dhabi, see our Etihad stopover guide.
Are you part of Emirates?
No. We are an independent tour operator licensed in Dubai by DTCM, part of Royal Arabian Safari Tourism LLC. Emirates decides who gets Dubai Connect and what a stopover includes; we provide the private car and driver.
Can I choose my hotel on an Emirates Dubai stopover?
On a paid stopover, yes: you pick the hotel in Emirates’ Dubai Experience planner. On the free Dubai Connect service, no: Emirates assigns the room. The rules are on our Emirates Dubai Connect guide.
Do my checked bags stay with Emirates on a Dubai stopover?
On one Emirates ticket with a connection under 24 hours, checked bags are normally tagged through to your final airport. If you add stopover nights, ask Emirates when you book whether your bags go to Dubai or straight through. Anything you carry rides in our car on a tour.
Can I get an extended layover in Dubai with Emirates?
Yes. Add a Dubai stopover while you book, on the outbound or return, or add it later through Manage Booking or your travel agent. A longer connection chosen on purpose does not qualify for the free Dubai Connect hotel.
What is the best way to spend an Emirates stopover in Dubai?
Base it on your hotel and your hours. With one day, take Old Dubai in the morning and Downtown from late afternoon into the evening. With two days, add a desert evening or an Abu Dhabi day, which we run from Dubai at USD 408 (AED 1,500) per car, Land Cruiser USD 490 (AED 1,800).
